Creative pieces

As someone who tries to maintain an equal balance of pragmatism and creativity, I am extremely humbled and proud of having a few pieces of my work published in various publications.

Title: Our Situation: The Animated Version

This piece was published in the book “Challenge the Experts” in September 2008. It was a book published by EL publishers.

As a business student at the Schulich School of Business at York University, I have learned to analyze and formulate solutions using my intelligence and logic. Not by conventional norms. I am taught to look at past and current problems that we as a society face and how to find feasible resolutions. In our current economical and environmental state, a major catastrophic event in the near future seems plausible. This is a realistic possibility as we as a global society have lost our morals. We are a materialistic-centered world. Cars, clothes, jewelry, etc. are the objects of our attention. Spreading peace, eliminating poverty, and sustaining natural resources should be our priorities. It is evident that we have lost our way. Our current problems can be attributed to people misspending, being misinformed, and being irresponsible. We have abused the Earth, and now it’s fighting back. It’s like the cliché, “awakening the sleeping giant,” where the Earth is going to react negatively to all of the turmoil we have caused it.

Our current problem is similar to episode 156, “Lice Capades” on the animated show South Park. I know this seems very peculiar but I will make sense of it soon. In this episode, Lice inhabit an eight year olds’ head. They are taking advantage of the shelter and food that is available to them from this person. However, one member out of thousands of parasites is conservative and logical. He is very adamant about how the lice are neglecting their environment and taking unfair advantage of their domicile. Yet he is ignored and ridiculed because nothing has gone awry thus far. Now there is a predicament. The only sensible parasite is ignored and the others continue to use and abuse.

This situation is very similar to Noah’s Ark. Everyone disregarded Noah’s preaching until the storm came. Well, the kid whose head was infected with lice needed to get treatment because the itching caused by the lice was too unbearable. Eventually he was prescribed a shampoo that would eliminate the lice. Fortunately, for the boy, the shampoo proved to be an effective treatment. The lice were all destroyed because they took advantage of their habitat instead of sustaining it. The lone parasite that advocated sustainability was correct.

Now, we are in a very comparable state. Many environmentalists, politicians, and celebrities are trying to promote public awareness of the ongoing issues with our current state of living. We are not recycling, reusing, and reducing enough! It’s a vicious cycle that is about to come full circle, unless we all start to recognize the error in our ways. This brings me back to the South Park episode, if only the parasites had listened to the one parasite who was being realistic, then they could have still been able to survive. If we don’t correct our mistakes, by 2012, one catastrophic event could possibly be the demise of human civilization as we know it!
